Humboldt County Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting Guidelines
Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies are for Chamber Members only.
Each business should make the ribbon cutting a special event. Businesses should try to tie the ribbon cutting to a grand opening or other type of celebration to add excitement to the event.
The ribbon cutting should be held at a convenient time to help attract the business community. The best times to schedule your ribbon cutting are Wednesday through Fridays at noon or 5:30. To schedule a ribbon cutting for your celebration, call the Chamber office at 623-2225 at least two weeks prior to the event. This will help ensure there is no conflict with other Chamber or local events.
The Chamber Secretary will notify all Chamber Board of Directors of your event. Available Board of Directors will be on hand to greet people at your request.
You are advised to do a solo mailing to members/customers regarding your event or other marketing of your event to attract an audience for your special day.
The flyer inserted into the Chamber newsletter announcing your ribbon cutting/grand opening is free, but you must provide the flyer.
If you would like to serve refreshments, the amount and type of food and beverage depends on the amount of marketing you do, the number of people you have invited and the type of business you have. There are no rules on food and drink. however, you need to decide what type of impression you wish to make. Do what makes you feel comfortable.
Photos will be printed in the Humboldt Sun on the Chamber Page which is published on the last Saturday of each month. The Chamber Secretary will notify the newspaper of the time of the ribbon cutting and The Mayor and City Council will also be notified of the time of the ribbon cutting.
KWNA Radio or Nomadic Broadcasting (Mix 102.7/Rock 94.3) might also run a short story on its newscast. You may call them to inquire.
To sum up, make your ribbon cutting part of your overall celebration of opening a new business, making a name change, changing owners, hosting a grand opening, unveiling a major remodel or whatever you view as highly significant to your business. Call 623-2225 for more information.
